Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a spacious mixing bowl, combine ground chicken, panko breadcrumbs, apple butter, and chopped cilantro. Add cumin, smoked paprika, along with salt and pepper to taste. Mix until just combined.
  2. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into full-sized burgers, ensuring they are about 3/4 inch thick.
  3. Preheat grill to medium heat. Cook the patties for 8-10 minutes on each side, flipping only once until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F. Top with smoked Gouda cheese in the last few minutes.
  4. Thinly slice the sweet onion. Heat olive oil in a separate skillet. Sauté the onions with a pinch of salt and pepper for about 20 minutes until golden brown, then mix in a spoonful of apple butter.
  5. Let the burgers rest for a few minutes before assembling on the bun with caramelized onions on top.
