Ingredients
  

For the Base
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable Oil Olive oil works as a substitute.
  • 1 pound Ground Sausage Any sausage can be used.
  • 1 cup Onions Chopped yellow or white onions.
  • 1 cup Bell Peppers Green or sweet varieties can be used.
  • 3 cloves Garlic Minced or garlic powder may be used.
For the Seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Oregano Fresh herbs are preferable.
  • 1 teaspoon Thyme Fresh herbs are preferable.
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder Optional.
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder Optional.
  • 1 teaspoon Chili Powder Adjust for desired heat.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper Optional.
For Cooking
  • 1 pound Shrimp Substitute with chicken or tofu.
  • 2 tablespoons Flour Cornstarch for gluten-free.
  • 2 cups Chicken Broth Vegetable broth can be used.
  • 2 cups Long-Grain White Rice Jasmine rice is also suitable.

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Season shrimp with your preferred seafood seasoning. Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium heat, cook shrimp for 2-3 minutes each side until pink. Set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of oil to medium-high heat. Brown the ground sausage for 4-5 minutes, add onions, bell peppers, and garlic, and sauté for another 5 minutes.
  3. Add oregano, thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir in flour and mix well for a minute.
  4. Pour in 2 cups of chicken broth, stir, and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes until it thickens.
  5. Stir in cooked rice, mix well, and let it simmer on low heat for 5 minutes.
  6. Fold the shrimp back in, mixing gently without breaking them. Cook for 1 more minute and serve hot.
